OMG can't stand that. Its why I don't like going to some shows. People don't take the proper time to train either. They just go full boar and then wonder why the horse acts up. That would be really nice of you if you bought the pony and did that. What this by any chance and intercollegiate show? It sounded like it in your description. Nos a super fan. Its dangerous, especially some of the horses they use in it.

Yes, it was a show hosted by the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association... I'm not a fan at all. I haven't liked any of their shows that much in terms of the treatment of the horses.

Still in the process of tracking down the pony's owner. I'm having to talk to the people who might know the person whose sister's friend trained the horse (or at least that's the way it feels). I wish I'd gotten the lady's name when I was there, but I was too upset to be thinking about things like that. It didn't occur to me to even consider buying the pony and starting her fresh until later that evening, and then I couldn't get it out of my head!

Finally got a name and a contact info for the pony's owner! I've just sent her an email asking about the pony. Fingers crossed to see how it goes. If I'm going to get this pony though, I'll be driving a hard bargain for the lowest price I can possibly get.

Yeah I live right near Dartmouth College and I know some of the horses they use and they are not trained. The ones that are supposed to be novice level are more like intermediate. So in that case they are not safe not to mention that when you ride you hop right on the horse and don't even get to try the horse out. I don't know why they came up with this solution for shows. Its beyond me. I have heard a lot of nightmare stories like yours. But with horses taking off on people and rearing and craziness.

The owner is asking more than I can give right now... and more than I think is going to be reasonable for the pony's training level. I don't know if I could negotiate her down to a more reasonable level.

I'm considering offering to basically train and help sell her for free if the lady pays for the pony to be boarded somewhere near me and gives me some percentage of the final selling price. I'll talk to her about it and see what she thinks.

Well, I've just sent the owner my proposal to essentially train the pony and help sell her to a good home. We'll see whether or not she thinks I'm crazy. It is sort of random, having someone email you and asking if they can train your horse for you. Hehe.

i've herd alot of neg things about those shows. I personally have no experience with it so I can't really comment on it. But I really dis like ppl who treat their animals like that. I noticed at alot of the serious AQHA shows alot of ppl treat their horses badly. Alot of ppl get mad and blame the horse if they lose a class when the fault really lays with in their poor riding. My horses ALWAYS come before me. Wither at a show, clinic or at home. I don't get to rest until they are taken care of. I also take care of my own horses. IE grooming, tacking, un tacking, cooling out etc. Unless of course I don't have time at a show between classes to take care of them myself. But that's the ONLY time I have a groom to take care of them.
