Lunge Line

Can someone please tell me a little bit about lunge line classes? I think I might like to try some this year.

its a really great class for young horses especially yearling's and 2 year olds to get some showing.

you have a time limit to circle your horse at 3 gaits, stop and turn to the other direction.

It really is a great way to get your horse used to the show scene and just practicing for it is good for both of you :) Focus on making sure your horse will respond immediatly to your cues and that your horse will turn smoothly to change directions when you get in front of him. You'll want your horse to move out from you at a walk, not trot off so you have to waste time bringing him back down and of course,DONT BE THE FIRST ONE IN,watch someone else go first :)

"Horses in a longe line class are judged on quality of movement, conformation, and trainability. They are scored on the walk, trot, and lope in both directions, they have a minute and a half to do so. Not doing all 3 gates in both directions will disqualify the horse. They are shown in a halter with a longe line in a 20' radius. After all entries have longed they line up for a halter class type inspection, 70% of score is movement, 30% is conformation. This is how it's done for AQHA and APHA, and is open only to yearlings." Found this on another forum :)
