I guess it differs from person to person. I find it a lot easier to smile on the flat then over jumps because I am concentrating to hard.

I usually don't smile, because I so busy concentrating on what I'm doing. However it is good to smile, it makes the judges think your having fun and all sorts.

I rarely do a full smile while going around a course or riding a pattern, if nothing else, I smile at the judge, and try to have a pleasant face the rest of the time! Always remember to 'smize'! ;P

It depends on the horse I'm on, really. If I'm riding a racking horse, I stare and look like I'm about to poop.

But I grin like a moron on a walking horse. I'm just like 'pffft it's so wiggly. :'D'

My old trainer would stick her tongue out.

This is me passing a judging station. Look at that face. That is the chubby cheeked smile of fear.

I make that face everytime I'm being judged or speaking to a judge. I actually try not to make the face, but I can't. I get so nervous I'm giddy. I need a more serious "game face". I think that judges are afraid I'm about to go for the throat.

I only smile in showmanship. In eq. The rulebook says something about presenting yourself in a 'work like matter' or something. So they want it serious. My smile for showmanship is cheesy. I'm like OKAY HERE I AM JUDGE LOOK AT MY HORSE HE ROCKS LOOK I LOVE THIS YAY ME I'M SO HAPPY. -looksawayandfrowns- -turnsback- OH MY JUDGE LOOK HOW MUCH I LOVE MY HORSE AND SHOWMANSHIP. (x
(I don't actaully say that haha)

I would try to smile but don't expect a win because you smiled if you feel your face starting to stiffen into a plastic smile then try to think of something utterly hilarious. Like at one show my friend had to use the bathroom so bad she couldn't make it all the way across the park to the bathroom so I told her to mount up behind me while I was waiting for my class and we galloped to the bathroom and we almost fell off the whole time!!! I told her if she peed on my she would clean my saddle and explain to the judge why I was riding bareback haha good times
