AQHA - General or Amateur Membership?

Which membership should I get when becoming a member of the AQHA? I own one quarter horse that I'd like to show locally. I'm a little confused about the different types of membership. If someone could explain it to me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

If you plan to show at AQHA shows in the Amateur classes, you will need an Amateur membership. You will also need to get a Novice card if you want to show in the Novice Amateur classes. If you are showing only at open shows, you do not need the AQHA membership.
