Braid or Band?

I have a show this weekend. It's english and western. I prefer the look of bands better. But I thought I would ask opinions. Riley has a really thick mane, even though I have been pulling it. I don't have any recent pix with me, but I've attached one of a braid I did in November and then his loose mane from a couple months ago. What do you think would look better with it being so thick?

Is it a rated show? If not then you don't need to do anything to it unless you want to.

It's an AQHA show. Normally you do what the horse excels at, which with Ri being green, I would geuss it's western....
