I'm considering trying my filly in some Hunter Breeding classes. Lately, she's been in Dressage Sport Horse Breeding shows and Future Event Horse classes.
Her first DSHB class went well and she won her filly yearlings class. She's also placed well at the FEH shows.
But this past weekend I had her up at the USDF breed show at Fair Hill and she didn't do very well. Very bottom of the pack in her small classes... though she received good scores for her - some "personal bests", if you will. Granted, she's in a rough growth spurt right now and is pretty rump-high.
She is however, jumper bred with Cor De La Bryere & Ramiro Z lines. And after watching her trot the triangle compared to the Donnerweiss, Sempatico, Rousseau, Quaterback, Rosenthal, etc., etc. babies - I'm thinking she may fair better in the Hunter ring at this point in time. She's bred to event - so she's 1/2 TB as well.
I've never shown hunters (aside from small 4-H schooling shows when I was just starting to show many years ago)... so what's expected on the hunter line? I've always used a handler at the DSHB shows ($75 a class), how much do hunter handlers charge on average? Are classes usually big?
Basically, tell me everything you can about showing yearling hunters on the line :)
