First ever show in 3 weeks!

Hi all,

There is a local show happening in about 3 weeks, so we thought we'd pop over and let the little one do a few classes.. we think we'll enter her for the Hunter leadrein and local lead rein. Anyway, I'm from a racing background, the only horseshows I ever did were back in Canada in the pony club shows at home. I never had to travel, and only ever competed against the other members of the pc.

How early do you get to the shows? Bath the day before or the morning of? How am I going to keep and GET the white parts white? The lead reins start about 10:30am, and as far as I'm aware Simba has never shown before, so assume get there plenty early to get him off the box and walking around to take in the sights/sounds. This show is in the middle of a few fields, will I want to bring some bottled water and sponges to clean him up? HELP!

Any and ALL advice is more than welcome - tips much appreciated.

I'm only after buying a used matching kids/moms outfit.. these outfits are mad!

I would get to the show a couple hours early, personally. Just so that you have time to groom, settle in, and plan how everything is going to work. I bathe my horse the day before, so that he's not wet in any spots and he's comfy for the show( anddd I don't have time on show mornings). I cover him in a cooler/sheet until he's dry and put him in a clean stall/turnout. You can get slinkies that cover the neck and/or body to keep them clean the night before the show, but I have yet to use one. I use showclean whitener on my appy, it's about $13, but you dilute it first, and apply with a small sponge/cloth. It works great for me. I would bring bottled water and a cloth, just so if you or your horse needs a quick 'cool off' you can dampen the cloth and wipe him down. I wish you the best of luck! :)
