So the day started good. My possum and blossom (my friends horse) loaded well and we headed off at about 5am. Possum floats great and blossom supposedly does too. We travelled an hour to the venue and got out to find blossom had gone down in the float
We got possum out and moved the divider so that it was on a slant but she had no room to move her front legs to push herself up. Removing the whole divider became a huge problem as the front rail was bolted on and the screw was underneath the float. So a random passer by/helper is under the float trying to undo the screw and richard is trying to keep blossom calm. The second she heard the noise underneath the float she flipped out and thrashed around and finally got herself up and out of the float but she was hurt. Her back nearside pastern was pouring with blood and had already swelled to double its size. She also had a large gash on her offside back cannon bone. She couldnt put any pressure on it at all and was jumping around on 3 legs neighing and carrying on. It was the scariest feeling ever. We managed to get her calmed down and called a vet. A vet call out...on a sunday
Just after that another lady turned up who is like the guru horse lady lol she had a look and said it wasnt broken and to cancel the vet as she could deal with it. I wasnt keen on the idea but it wasnt my money that would be paying for the vet.
We hosed her legs and cleaned her up and gave her some hay and she settled a bit. We found someone who had some bute so that went into some feed for her. About an hour later she started putting pressure on it again and now she is much better. Such a relief but a bad start to the day.
I was going in kinda unprepared anyway as I've never done anything like a gymkhana before and to be honest was only doing it because I was part of the pony club. So I went in and figured I would just do my best lol
We got 3rd in presentation. I would have got first if not for 2 tiny things. When she first looked her over her tail braid was tucked nicely up under the braid. By the 2nd time she came around to look it had come loose and fallen out. And my noseband was ever so slightly crooked grrrr other than that though everything was great.
Rider class we also got 3rd. Now here is where I am going to have a bit of a whinge lol we rode the whole thing perfectly. And we were 1 of only 3 of us who executed the right routine. Yet the person who got first was one who didnt do it properly but because her horse played up and she had to control it and did so quite well she got more points than me because there was something to show off her riding. I guess when you ride a great routine you can't expect to beat someone who didnt even ride it properly  I should have taken jarred and had a mini rodeo then I might have had a chance of winning lol
Anyways showmanship went well. She couldnt decide a winner so was looking them all over and when she got to possum she was resting one of her legs so I got marked down. The judge said to me afterwards that my horse should at least be awake lol its so hard to keep possum awake. As soon as she stands still she rests and goes to sleep lol
Bareback we got 3rd. Once again we rode an easy routine and didnt really get noticed. The secretary from my club was penciller in my ring and kept telling me what I got marked down on etc he suggested to me that we do more hacking rather than this kind of thing. He said had it been a hack show we would have been right up there
Anyways once it came to pairs and fours everything fell apart lol possum doesnt get the concept of being close to another horse. Its always just us out there doing our thing and she just doesnt get it lol my pairs partner decided we would be right to wing it and never bothered trying to get some practice in before the day even though she knew pairs and fours was new to both me and possum.
Pairs kinda went ok but fell apart in the canter as possum got too excited. Fours I was sabotaged lol only 2 of us ended up riding from our club so we needed to get a pair from another club to ride with s for fours. We were all close on points and when we formed sections I was with a girl from another club who was on the same points as me. I had no idea what we had to do so she said she would tell me. We got to one point and she said turn left. So I turned left and she went right then a bit later she said prepare to canter. So I did and she did canter and I did. And no one else did and she was grinning. Made me so mad.
Anyways here are some pics and vids
^^^last minute instructions from my pairs partner :)
^^^trying to catch up lol
^^^it was at around this point that they decided they were racing each other
Some randoms shots of the disastrous fours
^^^ a rare moment of togetherness
^^^ starting to get it together
^^^ still not too bad...for now
^^^ possum decided she didnt want to go that way
Change of rein helped for a while until we lost it, got it together, lost it, got it together and so on.
^^^ I kinda feel bad for possum. All she wants to do is put her head down and do her thing and she's got all these silly horses around lol its just not our thing. We prefer an arena with letters and a proper workout ;)
Theres a heap more pics but im pretty sure you get the messages by now lol
Theres just a couple more though lol
Our bareback class video. After many hours of working on her balance in the canter and then a visit from the chiropractor the week before we finally got it together on the day :) although my rise trot was a bit on the average side
