So I was in my first show with Ace today (my fourth, his first) and he did pretty well, I wasn't too disappointed but it could have been better. He was really attached to another horse we brought and wanted to be with him a lot. In my first class, hunt seat walk-trot, he good except for when we got to a certain spot in the arena, going both ways, he started freaking out and cantered a few strides when we were supposed to be trotting. But when he was trotting he did fine, and walking too. But that one spot he wanted to cut in and when I wouldn't let him he got frusterated. So needless to say, we placed 2nd out of 2 in that class. Then we came back and did open walk-trot, which had 11 riders, all of which were riding western but me. There were about 5 or 6 REALLY good western pleasure horses, then me, my sister, and some other okay western riders. I was really pleased with Ace's performance here; his transitions were beautiful, he was trotting nice and calm, head down...but we didn't place (it went through 5th) So that was a little disappointing, knowing I did well...but then again, I was happy because it was such a turnaround from the last class. So we got to end on a good note. I definitely want to show more and get him lots more experience, and seeing that this was his first show he did pretty well. But I still know we could have done much better. I just need some reasurance that he'll get better as we show more! What are your experiences with horse shows? First shows? Thanks!
