I went to my first ever open horse show yesterday. Previously I had only done 4-H shows. It was definitely a huge change, and the competition was extremely tough. The morning started out a little rocky since we got there later than I wanted to and I didn't have time to let Psych check out the arena. He was quite wiggly in his halter class, but from there on it was smooth sailing. Our pleasure class went amazingly, and I was soooo happy with how he performed. He was the only horse there, other than an arabian which came over halfway through the show, that wasn't a stock breed or mini, so that was different.
We didn't place very well, and when talking to the judge afterwards, she said that we performed extremely well, but she didn't place us because she only likes stock breeds. She did say, however that she really thinks we should keep showing and that other judges will probably place us really well. I took that as a really awesome compliment and was glad that at least she was honest about it.
I had a blast doing it, and Psych seemed to enjoy it as well. We have another show that we plan on going to next month, and that show has classes just for saddlebreds. I can't wait.
