First Show - Would love some advice. :)

Ok, so it's mine and Dougal's first show on 6th of June! We went to a small in-hand one last summer just after we got him, but this is our first show involving riding.

We are doing quite a few classes as it's a fun, relaxed show and i thought i might as well make the most of it. This show is just to gain some experiance for the both of us and get him used to a show enviroment. He's been to Pony Club lots of times so is defintly getting used to a large amount of horses in a big field but i'm prepared for some high jinx as he can get a little excitable.

Ridden Turnout - What should i expect in ridden turnout? What exactly do i have to do?

In-hand [Highlands] - I did an in hand class last year but could do with a refresher in the basic proceedures!

Ridden [Highlands] - Now, i've read up on ridden shows but would love someone to just go through the normal routine with me! I know i need to do w/t/c [Dougal still has trouble cantering on his left lead but as this show is completely for to experiance i'm not too bothered.] Also, i have to do an individual show part. What would be the best sort of thing to do for that? Any ideas?

Best Riding Club Pony [best non-showy allrounder] - I know this involves w/t/c and a small jump. Anything else included in this class?

And finally, i'm doing the mini novice show jumping. The jumps are only very small but what exactly do I do once I go in the ring? What would the best way to memorise the course be? Just tell me everything, haha.

Basically, i would love some advice and tips and basic proceedure of each class if that's possible! I'm very new to competing and am very excited but a little nervous of getting it wrong.

Well, I can only help with the show jumping class but heres how they NORMALLY work. You go into the ring and salute the judge, and then blow the wistle, ring the bell, or make some other sound. Then you are cleared to pass the start flags and start your course.

We always walk our courses before we ride them, but I'm not sure if you'll get that chance or not. If not, look at the sheet that's posted and ride the course mentally in your mind. Then look at it in the ring and point out every jump in the order you will do them in and become farmilliar to where your start and finish flags are. Then try to watch some other people go, look at how the course is riding, how the footing is, and where some possible trouble spots could be. Then tell a friend, coach, parent, what have you, your course a couple of times! Good luck!
