Horse show help!

I took my horse to his first show in June, a small show, and he would have done okay except he was constantly worried about where his buddy was, which made him very hard to manage and get focused. He was not the same calm, cool horse that he is at home, even when he's not riding with his buddy. I have more shows coming up that I want to be in but I can't have him acting all crazy. If he can't even do well at schooling shows, how will we ever progress?

Have you talked to your trainer about what s/he would suggest?

If it were my horse, I would haul him extensively and have the trainer ride him at the shows as well. And leave the other horse at home.

Its his first show. He'll get better. If he is doing ok at home without his buddy, he will transfer that to the shows too. He will eventually realize that he does his job then goes back to his buddy.
