So I've had my horse since last October, and I'd really like to show her this summer. Here's a little info: I've never been in a show in my life, but I've been riding 6 years. Right now I do basic dressage and English equitation. My horse is an 18 yo OTTB mare and she has tons of great training in both dressage, jumping and just English in general. She loves being ridden and has lots of spirit and determination. She is also very quiet and think she'd be okay around other horses. I know she's showed lots (before I got her), but I've never seen her in the showring.
My questions are... where do I get started? It's a lot to think about for me, because I've never shown before. I would need show clothes, (I'll probably have to borrow them)... my BO has a trailer, so I don't think that's a problem. I just hope that I would be ready for it. Basically I just really need to work on the canter with her, as well as halts (I do mostly trot with her). Anyway, I was hoping to just do a really low-key, low-level English flat class.
What sort of stuff would I be doing exactly? What do I need to know? How should I prepare? Any tips?
Oh, and I guess I should add too, that if I don't end up showing her, I'd really like to take one of my BO's horses in a Western show, either for W. Pleasure or games.
