Is it just me, or is this girl mean?

Ok, there is a girl that rides the same horse as me in a horse show series. She is older than me, and refuses to let me do anything but hold the horse while she grooms, wraps, etc. I have tried to stand up to her before, but she just ignores me. I can't find an opportunity to tell my trainer, and my mother will be watching the horse show, while her mom just stands there, seeing the halo. At the second show, I was holding the horse, who is an older, nearly bombproof lesson horse who I have never known to bite, kick, bolt, etc. while the other girl is brushing off the horse. The horse's hindquarters were right near a door. A couple of little boys came running in, and slammed right into the horse's butt. I quickly went back to make sure they weren't hurt, and briefly explained to them why they shouldn't run at a horse stable. After they left, I walked back up to hold onto the horse and praise him. All the sudden, the girl started yelling at me; "Oh my gosh, you supposed to be holding the horse, you idiot! He could have kicked me!" Her mom stood there staring, so I simply said "You don't talk to me like that. If you want, I can just leave you here to do the rest of the work" After that, she just snorted and kept brushing. Did I do the right thing by saying that? What should I do next time this happens to me?

P.S. Karma got back at the girl. Twice. First, she was wrapping the horse, and one of the wraps was soaked in horse urine , and the next time, she got into a riding accident, and couldn't be at the third show

I'd think so, I know I'd be a bit meaner ;) and don't let her talk to you like that. Next time just leave or maybe stay away from each other.

Horses are scared of two things... Things that move and things that don't.

Sounds to me like the girl is a bully and instead of getting physical, she just slams people with words. I know it's hard to talk to other people like that if you have been raised to be polite and respectful but often, telling them off is the only way to be heard. I would also have been significantly meaner, but I have had some unique life experiences that really disabled my brain-mouth filter LOL. Just make sure to stand up for yourself every time and never back down. You are on the easy side of the whole thing now, that first time is always the hardest.

Does she hold the horse for you in return while you are getting ready? You should find an opportunity sooner rather then later to tell your coach about what is going on. If you are both showing the horse, you should both be getting it ready. Or look for another horse to ride.... Maybe she will soon move on to another horse.... ???
