Man, I'll be estatic when we don't come in last!

This is my filly's first year of showing (she's only a yearling) and so far we haven't been off to a great start.

Granted she's behaving - which is all I want from her right now. But I figured we could come in something other than last place along the way!

She's been to 2 local hunter shows for the 2 & Under Model class. We've come in 2nd out of 2 both times, but she's not bred to be a hunter. And I knew going into it that it was JUST for experience.

Today, she went to her first USEA Future Event Horse show, which is where I really wanted to her to do well. Had her professionally handled and everything. She got 4th... out of 4.

I know she's young and she's only been to 3 shows, but geesh this last place thing is getting old already. Atleast she's behaving (for the most part) when we're at the other farms.

(rant over).

HeHe. . . Last summer my little girl rode her pony in their first ever horse show. (daughter and pony were both 4 year olds) They placed third in the walk trot. She was ecstatic! For about five minutes. . . then she realised that third out of three was . . . LAST.
Congrats for taking your young one around to gain some experience! You won't be last forever!

LOL, I hear ya! I'm currently showing a green horse in the hunters just to get him in the show ring. Let's just say he doesn't have the ideal hunter movement. The last show we did, there were 10 very fancy horses in the undersaddle. They pinned the top 8, gave "reserve" to the 9th, and then? there was me. :) walked out dead last!

I think working with green horses just changes your mentality. It's not longer about the ribbons, just the experience you're giving your horse. as long as my young horses behave and try, i'm happy!
