My first real show

Yesterday was my first "real" show. I did one walk/trot class last April, but it was on a crappy horse with a hack trainer who actually didn't even teach or help my riding improve, rather she just took my money and told me I looked great......enough said. As many of you know, I have serious balance issues from a car accident and brain injury almost 8 years ago. I just started riding a new horse last Saturday, and had a hard fall on Wednesday. I knew if I didn't show now, I probably never would. I entered 4 classes, all beginner type stuff, and was beyond nervous. This is how things went...

4th out of 8 in beginner w/t eq
4th out of 8 in beginner w/t pleasure
8th out of 19 in walk halt advanced beginner
11th out of 25 in w/t advanced beginner

I was so happy that I finally conquered my fears after 29 years. Just wanted to share with everyone.

It sounds like you did great, Wendy. That looks like one heck of an impressive result, especially for your first show. Good for you that you are able to stick with it and I just want to say that I am so proud of you. So many people would have given up long ago with everything you have gone through. You are a very courageous woman and I am proud to know you.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

Wow, that is very impressive. Congratulations! Lots of people overcoming fears this week. Must be something in the air besides volcanic ash.

You just have to see your distance...you don't have to like it.

that's soooo awesome! I don't think I have been in a class with 25 people, that seems like a major traffic jam lol

Thank you everyone. The love and support means so much. Cecillia, they were smart enough to divide the advanced classes into 2 groups, thank goodness. I wanted to leave the ring as soon as I walked in, but my trainer(I LOVE her) actually told the gate person I was NOT allowed to leave the ring, lol. Next show is this Sunday!
