Open Show

I must confess this will be my first Open/Fun Show that I'm actually going to enter. I've sat through a couple but I always got there after they started. And since I can't find anyone else in my little group of friends who wants to go with me that actually knows what they are doing I'm full of questions. I would like to take my Haflinger mare and my GypsyXHaflinger filly. The filly would be doing Halter and since it's a fun show I thought I'd enter my Haflinger mare in whatever I could that wouldn't embarrass us, that is. But I don't want to look like a complete fool (maybe just a minor one) since there will probably be people taking this show quite seriously.

Here is the add for the show:

****OPEN HORSE SHOW*** Sept 18

I was thinking of bringing my oldest two children and entering them in some of the youth classes. If their helmets still fit. They don't ride a lot but I figure I could do the lead line courses with them. My oldest son knows how to ride enough to maybe do a youth class without me holding on... but probably not. I don't think he'd actually want to do it.

Should I band my Haflinger's mane? It falls on both sides of her neck but when I band it it's uneven and I've been trying to get it to grow back out so I'm afraid to cut it. Or try to braid it? Not sure if I'd get much of a braid though...

Should I use my show halter or is any halter okay? Since it is an Open Show? I have a show halter... Not sure if it would fit my filly but I know it fits my Haflinger.

Is a nice western shirt and a nice pair of jeans okay? Or should I go out and buy a fancy showmanship outfit? Or bejewel one of my shirts? Do I have to wear a hat?

In the Halter classes do my horses have to know how to pivot? I mean I can probably get them to by then...

Is there anything I should know? I want to go and have fun... but it's still scary, lol.

Don't band or cut the mane, just comb it all on one side. Yes you must wear a hat. Use the show halter if it fits. They do not have to know how to pivot for halter but they do for showmanship. A button up and jean will work as long as it is ironed and clean.
