    Rejoining 4-H

How many people have quit 4-H? I did, about 3yrs ago I was going to show my hackney pony and pinto arab mare. Well they didn't teach me anything, you know what our "work shops" were, cleaning a race car track every Sunday. Going out and picking literally CRAP up for half the day. So It was a frickin blast. That one time we did have a riding workshop, my mare hot a little hot In the arena and started cow hoping, the leaders of the group didn't do anything. My dad had to come out and grab her, then he got on and made her canter a few times all the way around the arena. Not only was It embarrassing, but I got In 4-H for help on how to ride and show my horse. Not clean up crap so you get paid for it. Then you know your 4-H show, well each parent has to buy something for It. My mom bought 2 24 packs, 2 packs of hot dog buns and supplied to large camping coolers full of ice. Ok she PAID for everything she brought right, they made us turn around and pay again. My mom went up and asked for a pop out of OUR cooler and the group leaders daughter(s) said, you have to pay for It. My mom said "we did!", my mother was so mad about It. I understand Its for fund raising, but we should be able to get a pop for free since we did bring In TWO 24 packs. I wanted to show In WP, and possibly english, because my mare didn't know any halter. My hackney did but I already knew how to show him halter. Since my mom Is very close friends with the owner Of Kandi-Land stables who host her own shows throughout the summer. My mom said I should have took you to Linda and she would of taught my ground up, sadly I joined around the time she was hosting, instead of before. So It was to far In show season, I got nothing but exhausted from my 4-H group. The only thing I missed was the show sheets, sadly I now have no Idea where shows are or when. So I've been debating to re-join 4-H, I just don't want to go threw that crap again, they didn't support us. Or try and help us, It was stupid, I didn't even get to enter 1 CLASS the entire year. When we moved to the country I dropped out right before our County Fair.

Wow. Sounds like you were part of a really crappy club. I'd have been out of there, too.

If you want to get back into 4-H, choose a different club. One that better suits you. In my club we have ride meets and at least one of the leaders is there and they help us out if we need something.

The club in my area is horrendous. We used to be a part of it about 5 years ago, but ALL they did the whole meeting was talk about the next shows. There weren't ANY workshops and the people taught us nothing. Also, they had smoking at a 4-H event and that is forbidden.

But then we talked to this one lady who was a leader of another 4-H group and it was WONDERFUL. Everything you could ask for and more. Unfortunately, it is too far for us to drive to it each time.

If you can find a really nice group, then rejoin. If you can't, I wouldn't rejoin. Unless you just really wanted to be in 4-H to go to the shows. I'm not sure if you can actually just go to the shows and not the meetings?

There are actually 2 clubs In our county. We picked that one because It "sounded" perfect. Yet was nothing like they said to my mom, I'd really hate to end up In the same boat, but at the same time, I can't show if I don't know where the shows are/when lol. I personally think 4-H is a bunch of B.S.
