How good enough do you really have to be to be in an AQHA show? I've got an 8 year old QH and I think with a little work he could do it. (I would be doing HUS.) I've been to and watched many AQHA shows and know that the HUS are usually big Appendix quarter horses that are totally consistent. But at the last show I went to there were two girls there that were obviously just starting out, as they really stood out from the rest; they had small, plain horses, didn't have all the bling...but I applaud them for getting out there and showing. Of course, they didn't place, but they gave me confidence that I could do it. My horse will never be a big time HUS horse, just because he's not as big and his strides aren't as long, but I still really want to try it with him. My goal is to show him in an AQHA show next winter. (Our university hosts three per winter.) I was just wondering what you guys thought...how good enough you think you and your horse need to be. Also, what would I need in terms of tack, clothes, fake tails...anything special?
