Taking my greenie to his first show

My horse is a 3 year old quarter horse. He has solid groundwork and excellent under saddle. I foubd a circuit of shows near me and plan on showing him in it. It should be relatively quiet and small shows. So my question is, how should I plan on adjusting him to the new atmosphere. We have trailered places before and he always handled it very well. Thanks in advance

If there are shows before the ones you plan to participate in, maybe you can ask if you can bring your horse there just to walk him around and get him used to the show atmosphere and so many horses. If not, you should try to get to your shows early so that you have a chance to walk your horse and let him see everything there is to see before your classes start.

As the poster above mentioned it would be a good idea to take him to a few shows at places you'll be planning to compete at and just like him hang out ride around without worrying about the stress of competing.

The most important thing is to make sure it's a good experience for him. You don't want his first times out to bad ones, it will just lead to more issues down the road. Definitely get there early and let him adjust to everything. It's not a big deal if you only do a class or two and just ride around the rest of day. As long as he's doing well with everything and you're having fun it's a good day.
