too old to start?

Ok, so I am 20 years old and have never competed or shown in my life, I really wanna try it at least once but don't know where to start. Whats the difference between Unaffiliated and affiliated. Does being a late starter affect what you can and can't do?
Whiskey is 12 now, and she's an unregistered mutt, we've done a bit of jumping, but only over make shift jumps made from tires, wood and barrels (nothing ever too big)

Why don't you find a nice local open show to try? You could enter an english pleasure class and a green jumping class. I don't remember the exact name of the class, but they usually just have two little jumps. It's no pressure and will get your confidence for showing up. They are also really cheap. :)

Yearling
I've asked someone I know about jumping lessons, I think my biggest fear is that i'll end up in a class with a load of children and i'll most likely embarrass myself haha, trying to find fun shows/events in my area but coming up blank.
This is the kinda thing we've been jumping

I've only done local dressage shows, but they have different classes for junior (under 18) and senior riders (18+). It may be a bit different where you're at and with the type of show you enter.

I didn't get to start riding until I was 21, so I definitely didn't start competing until I was older and had no problems with it
