Typical horse show days/hours

Hi all,

I have a quick question about horse shows. I've never been to one, so I don't know what day/s or time they usually are.

I'm considering a 3rd shift job position, so I wouldn't get off work until 7am, and I'm not sure if this will interfere with being able to show in the future.

So if anyone can tell me the typical day and time of a horse show, and whether it is a one day thing, or a whole weekend deal, that would help me figure out if this job would keep me from being able to participate.

Thanks!!

Typically, for open shows, held on the weekend, Saturday & Sunday or if a one day show, usually the Sunday. Most start at 9 am and are finished around 5 pm. Breed shows are different, they can be on weekdays and more than a few days in duration.

That completely depends on the show.

The main shows I go to for schooling at local open shows. Every other Saturday isn't 430pm to ??? I've been there until 2am before.

Sunday shows are 1230-typically 6 or 7pm, depending on how many people are there. Last year we were getting out before 6.

The big shows we go to, can go from 9-??? 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12? Or 11- 6, 7, 8, 9,???

I've been to some shows where it's Saturday and Sunday, starts at 9am both days until entries are done...

It really depends on the type of show. How WELL it's run. The amount of people there. Time it starts. Etc...

It depends completely on the type of show, hiw many people show up, how far away it is, what type of show, abd a bunch of other things. I do local hunter shows and they are usually 830 to 4 or 5, sometimes even 6 depending on how well the shows run and how many people show up. That means I usually have to get up before 6 to get to the barn and load the pony up and go. Although that also depends on what time the first class I'm showing in is and how far away the show is.

I can only speak for eventing. Our shows start at 8:30 which usually has me out of bed around 5:30. I'm usually home and on the couch by 3:30. Depending on what discipline you're showing in, overnights might work. I don't know about you, but when I used to work overnights, I'd barely make it home before falling into bed until about 2:00pm. I can't imagine heading directly off to a horse show with no sleep.

Yea it's not an ideal situation. I'm interested in hunter/jumper show in particular. I would be working every third weekend, so I don't think that I'd necessarily have to go straight from work to a show. I think as long as the show isn't the entire weekend, I might be able to get away with it. I'd be off Fri. and Sat., so if it was a Sat. show I could go to bed earlier on Fri. night and be able to get up early for show. It just might mess up my sleep schedule a bit! But I don't think I could do a multiple day type show with those hours.

Oh yeah, that would probably work well. I think those shows are more spread out in terms of what time their classes are, so you could probably find stuff to work into your sleep schedule. Too bad you don't ride dressage. I find I do very nice dressage tests when my body is so tired, it can't do anything except relax. It works very well.
