Foal
goodbye my dearly beloved

The wind once blew through your main
Your wild eye and flaring nose
The memories are all I have of the fun time we once had
Racing through the corn fields
Hoping to never get caught
In the summer sun or winter chills
Down by the canal with the sun on our backs
Wrapped up warm when the rain came down
You were my friend I loved you so
I never wanted you to go
You still had so much life left to give
It wasnít your time to go
But at least you are free now
I hear your whispers in the wind
Your spirit will always be alive
10 years we spent together
You taught me so much and brought me so far
Together we grew we became as one
But with time I moved up
We still had the odd ride
Galloping through the fields like we used to
19 and still so much life
I wanted you to be happy and thought I was doing right
I let you go to a new girl who would love you like I did
Who would have the same memories that I keep so dear now
I thought you would be safe out on loan
Leaving you there at that other farm was so hard
But I was happy that you could give the girl what we had
I kept the tears back knowing you were still mine
I wasnít saying goodbye
I thought I would see you again

But now I wish I had
For those words I never got to say
I left you there and that was it
I came away and never again was I to look in that wild eye
The one that was brown and blue
Like a cloud or a whirlpool
I remember driving away like it was yesterday
Your head over the stable door
So calm and content
A month or two went by
But then that day I heard
That you had been put down
The break in your shoulder could not be fixed
That the other horse had caused through a kick
I feel the pain from that day the words like needles
You must have been so scared and I was not there
I should have been next to you
I wish I could have hugged you
And said goodbye that one last time
Iím sorry I let you down
I wish I could have kept you safe
But you left this world and me
For a better life maybe
I miss you like mad
But your memory will always stay
I feel your warm breath against my skin
I hope youíre safe
These words are for you
Goodnight my beloved
My sweet sweet friend

I wrote this about my pony daizy-may, she left this world befor her time october 2008. I never got to say what I wanted before she closed her eyes that final time so I wrote this poem for her just to say I final goodbye.

Yearling
It is so hard to lose a friend, horses touch us so deeply and when they are gone there is always a big void. I am sorry about your pony. My friends horse just passed away yesterday....she lived a good long life almost reaching the age of 36....I was the one to find her and it was so upsetting to me, I had a very difficult time sleeping last night. I will really miss her everytime I go to the barn.
