Just a little love can go a long way.

This is a pretty cheesy story, but it's about me and my mare.

This was it!. My dream was coming true, I was going to buy my first horse!
I searched high and low and none of them were for me. One day, I found an add on the internet, the owner obviously didn't want to spend much time on the add. I dialed the number, I kept on telling myself not to get my hopes up. "Hello?" A dull voice said on the other line, "Hi! I was calling about your horse" I responded. "Oh yeah" she replied, "I'll tell you this mare can be a big old brat, she needs a experienced rider and can not take a beginner." She said in a annoyed voice. " is there a time I could come and like at her?" I asked. "Sure whenever, what day?" Said the lady, "how about Tuesday?" I asked. "That works, bye."
I pulled into an old run down trailer park that had a fails with 3 horses, a pony and a mini pony. The horses were skinny, and 2 were old and miserable looking, the other horse was younger looking. Her skinny body and dull fur cried out.
The owner said "let me catch her". She grabbed the halter and started running after and chasing the poor mare. Of course the mare ran away, the lady growled and got very angry, she grabbed a big splintered stick, cornered the horse and hit her and roughly but the halter on.
We couldn't ride the mare at that old run down trailer park, so we decided to trailer her to an arena.
The owner tried for a hour and half to get the poor mare into the trailer, she hit her with sticks and even tried to scare her into the trailer with her car. My attempts at trying to verbally help did nothing. Finally I offered to take the mare. I got her in after a long time of gently asking her to go in.
We ended up doing a 1 week lease on her to decide if I wanted her. I grew to love that poor, miserable looking horse. I couldn't bear to think what might happen to her if I gave her back. So I made up my mind and bought that gentle giant.
I got her home and she quickly but weight on. That run down, dull, skinny mare has turned into a beautiful, strong, gentle and sleek angel!
She was not trusting, she feared humans. But, with weeks of bonding and working together we are a team that is a force to be reckoned with!

It just goes to show that a little bit of love and care can go a long way.
I am so thankful I found that sweet angel! Because I fear she may have been auctioned off or sold to slaughter!

Thanks for reading! Sorry for and spelling or punctuation errors, I typed this on my phone.

He looks soo good! I'm glad you gave him a good home! It breaks my heart to see horses sold to slaughter! I saw today over 12 Belgian's are sold to slaughter and can't be bought out of it! It breaks my heart!!! And to think my precious girl could have been with them and sold to a different slaughter house! Its painful to think about!

Here are the before and after pics.
