"The Mustang"
So many horse,* the wild and free,
*Like birds, flying o'er the grassy sea,
So many horse, none to ride,
Rearing, galloping side by side.
Feet on never a shoe was lain,
Great mouths never marred by pain,
Backs that have* never been scarred by whip,
No harsh cold bit behind the lip.
So many horse the wild and free,
Like birds, flying o'er the grassy sea,
Shall live and die and die and live,
Never taking, never give;
Always there, and always free,
Go thickly galloping on.
