Open door (short story)
I lay on his back listening to the sound of waves crashing on the shore,
and staring silently up at the stars. I sit up as I feel his body tense up
underneath me and take a hold of his mane just in time as he takes off
at a gallop across the shore line. I close my eyes and listen to his heavy
breathing and the rythmic sound of his feet on the sandy shore, and then
turn around to see the sand being flung up in a cloud behind me.
Flying. As he slows down to a steady canter my mind gets flooded
with everything. My past, my present, my future. I think of the life
I lived before this, before 'The" horse entered my life. As we race across
the shore line, behind me I see nothing, only blackness waiting to
swollow me, and ahead of me I see everything, but mostly a door.
A door to a new life, a new beggining.
E v e r y horse is good for something. You dont throw a whole life away just cause he's banged up a little...
