Poem about horse slaughter

Just something I came up with. It's out of the horse's point of view.
I am broken
I am miserable
I'm half asleep

I was sold at some show
For a song
I wasn't there for long
2, 4 maybe 5 dollars.

I am approached
By something like a roach.
Crooked teeth
Nasty grin.

I am led into a trailer
Squished with other horses
A young gelding,
An old mare,
And some other I wouldn't dare
To look at.

We are unloaded, but my legs buckled
And failed beneath me.
Words are yelled,
And I was beaten.
I patiently wait for them to finish
Like I've always had.

Finally I stood up
And was led away.
I saw none of the other horses,
But it's ok.
I knew what was coming next.
My owner has told me stories,
But I'm not afraid,
It's better this way.

I was led into a shed,
And there was a bang.
Just like me,
My life was sold for a song.

I know it doesn't rhyme, it's not supposed too, and I know it's not scientifically corrected, it's not supposed to be .
Love, WaveHorse :)

What emotion were you trying to elicit with your writing?

If it gets that response, you're on the right track.

It's really good, made me feel sad while I was reading it.

Only bit I didn't get was 'life being sold for a song.' I love how it sounds, but it doesn't make any sense. What does it mean?

@Chokolate - It means they didn't think twice before buying him, and they didn't think twice before taking his life. It doesn't really matter to them (them being the slaughter person - thingies :P)
