Let us know how it came out in "Saddlebag's" test. I hope it works out to be good.

I will definitely do that! Now I just have to wait for it to get here! (which will be very hard)

The way I look at it, a 27 dollar saddle is a 27 dollar saddle. WHO CARE'S if it's not all that you can add it to your horsey collection. Always a bonus in my book! Being able to actually use it all the time is just a perk

Barnsby saddles are a good quality.

This is a picture of a Passier Hannover. Looks a lot like yours, though, doesn't it.? it's an old dressage saddle

The seller is not correct/. The old style cutback would have a much shallower seat. And, a saddleseat saddle would not have a knee roll like this saddle has. That is a dressage saddle with minimal thigh/knee rolls. It isn't quite a close contact as it has, in fact, a knee roll.

I love the fact that the pommel is a cutback design. My Passier saddles have that same style. That makes them especially good with horses that have high withers.

It looks like it may be missing the front billet. Are there only two billets on both sides? Usually, the front billet is anchored onto the tree and the two other billets are tied into a webbing strip that goes under the seat. All I see are the two billets tied into the webbing. I would check and see if you need to have a front billet redone.

Barnsbys were good quality saddles and, if all is well with it, all it might need is some reflocking.

However, as Tiny mentioned, the wrinkled seat is of concern. It often means that the tree is broken. Put it on the floor and press on the seat, cantle and pommel of the saddle. If it creaks or flexes, it means the tree is likely broken. Then, a trip to a saddler is in order to see for sure.

If the tree is OK, it is a great saddle for 27 dollars.

Green Broke
I think this is more the style used for hacking around as others posted.

And it is a wonderful saddle, and if tree is all right, and size fits you, I predict you will enjoy it very much. This saddlemaker was much sought after.

Saddleseat saddles have fuller skirts and did even way back.

And Lonnie Hayden saddles is what they were called, the cutbacks I am talking about here, before he had one made, they were straight pommel.

Not a bad saddle .... if the tree is broken and it does look like it is .... you could always have it fixed by a saddle shop and it would be still be cheaper than an new saddle!

Hmmm....a broken tree is a death sentence for a saddle. You will never get another tree to fit and it would cost far more than it would be worth. It becomes a lamp base if the tree is broken.

I was watching that one on ebay and decided to pass. A tad too big and the wrinkles scared me away. Love to hear how it is when you get it.

I'm just looking for a cheap old saddle that isn't made in india. Just some light trail riding is all I need one for.
