    I'm not for sure, but the reason the person said no may be a show related rule.
    I prefer a one ear with no throat latch. More of a bosal headstall.
    You just have to watch that your horse doesn't rub it off.
    Without the throat latch an unattended horse can easily rub it off on a hitching rail or even their own leg.

    I use a d-ring snaffle on a one ear headstall and I've never had an issue with it. Also, snaffles apply pressure to the tounge, bars, and lips of a horse's mouth, not the poll, so the unevenness of the one ears wont have any effect on how the bit works.
