17 vs 27 strand cinch?

Would anyone know what are the pros & cons of using a 17 strand cinch, or using a 27 strand? I imagine 27 strand is stronger, but I've noticed the 17 strand cinches are wider.

A lot depends on the rigging of your saddle. If you have a saddle with a full-double rigging, you don't want a wide roper-type cinch, because it may cause rubbing and chafing behind the horse's elbows. If you have a 3/4 or 7/8 rigging, you can go a little wider, but make sure it doesn't rub.
