Advice on hoof boots?

The next time our farrier comes he is going to shoe my daughter's quarter horse Charlie. We bought him early last fall and he had shoes on then. We removed them all after he threw one and he has been barefoot every since. It was no surprise to us that he needed shoes, he is just one of those horses that had somewhat tender hooves. Anyways, our farrier recommended boots for him while he is in the pasture. He spends most of his time out there and the farrier said it would help keep him from throwing shoes. As I look around though, most boots have Velcro and our farrier strongly adviced against that. He said that in his experience, the horses always rip the Velcro. He said they should only cost $30 or so. I am having trouble finding anything. I know I could call him and ask for more specifics, but I wanted to check here first.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Julie, I tried several different boots in pasture (once when my paint had abscess, and other time when my qh cut her frog badly) - both, cheap and pricey. Neither stayed on (and yes, qh ripped off the one on velcro). I'm curious to hear what brand your farrier would recommend.
