Antique Bits - fun find!

My mom called me to come go through some "junk" with her today. We found some real junk and a couple of gems. The junk included show clothes of mine from a long time ago, we're talking size 2t.

The neat stuff we found, 2 antique bits. They were in the bottom of a box that mom had picked up at an auction. The first I know a bit about the maker and did find some similar items that had been sold. (Hoping mom will give in and let me have it) The second looks handmade, no clue about it. I didn't have my camera so the pics are cell quality but thought I'd share anyway.

Here's the first one, a Crockett.

Here's the second. It has Mexican coins at the joint on the shank. No discerning maker's marks anywhere. Pretty sure this one was handmade.

If anyone knows anything about them, please share and I'd love to see other antiques too! :D

Very cool. Wish I had something neat in my collection like that. A couple years back at the equine trade days they have around here, someone had an old spade bit, the shanks decorated and shaped like an Aztec woman. I don't remember what they wanted for it, like $100 or $150, maybe, and for all I know it wasn't all that old, rare, or valuable. I kinda wish I'd bought it, though of course I have no use for it and no place to display it....

Me too, hope mom gives in and gives them to me. I told her I'd take the Crockett for christmas, she paid 5 bucks for the box they came in at the auction.

Very cool! I have a small antique bit collection. I have quite a few of 1800's homemade draft bits as well as some 1950's show bits. My goal is to find some of the old super nasty severe bits. They're quite interesting, but pretty sad too.

Feel free to share! Old equipment is quite fascinating. I'd love to have some of the old vaquero type bits hanging on my wall too!
