Any one want to critique this bit/have experience with something like it?

So it's my hope to be able to do smaller pleasure shows with my mare, despite focusing on barrels at the moment. I don't plan on using this bit a lot (I'm not a huge fan of the fact it only has one joint in the mouthpiece) but it's a good deal and once my mare is finished found be a nice lite bit in the show ring.
So anyone have any experience with a bit like this one? Good, bad, anything? Thanks

I personally don't use a single jointed shank bit except once in a blue moon because I hate nutcracker action on a show horse, or any horse really. The only time I use one is if I have a strong barrel horse and it's on a gag bit.

This isn't a terribly awful bit or anything, but I think you could find something better to show in. I recommend a billy allen mouthpiece bit. It's a single joint but it has a barrel so it takes away the mouthpiece's effect and makes it a much lighter choice.

You can find some cheaper versions of those as well. The couple I have I bought over a hundred dollars before I discovered them cheaper at knock off sites.

If she rides good in it I don't see a problem with it, but in all honesty I think a curb mouth piece is a better option. Most people think of curbs as being harsh, I think there just confusing to a horse that isnt finished or ready for the bit. I think it would definitely be a good transition bit to get her used to lateral movment with a shanked bit. I think the most impotant thing is to pick what your horse rides well in. I know of cow horses that are never taken out a a argentine. So really its personal preferance, and what you horse likes.
