Aussie saddles rule! For trail riding anyway. I just use a Western gel pad under mine. That is interesting, the poster who said someone told her the flaps are meant to contact the horse. Glad I didn't spend money on a shaped one then. Down Under sells the shaped ones also, I think they are kind of pricey, but not horrible. I'd use a reglar Western pad though. You'll have more options as to material, shape (refular or the endurance type contoured ones), gel or not, etc.
