A mix between english and western saddle. I have seen the poleys on some of these and they really peak my intrest. Anyone ever ridden in an aussie saddle or own one. What are your thoughts about the thigh poleys?
I love them. If your horse unexpectedly twists around, the poleys will force your upper thigh (and thus your hip) to stay aligned with the horse. FWIW, I regularly ride in a western, English & Australian saddle. IMHO, the most secure for a young / new rider is the Aussie. Add a grab strap, and you should be able to ride most anything out.
My parents both have Aussie saddles for their TB and Appendix QH geldings... The love them. I'm saving up right now to buy my mare one! Check out: Australian Horse Saddles, Tack, and Clothing from Down Under Horse Saddle Supply -- They ship anywhere in the US and request horse/rider information to fit the saddle to you and your horse. (Also, if you're not satisfied that it doesn't fit you or the horse properly, pay the shipping there and they'll fix/send it back for FREE.) It's an amazing service, and the saddles are sooo comfortable (plus stylish)!! :)
