Great idea smrobs!!!! I use a western pad with a surcingle on top. The western pad I use is the cashel foam type ones with the rough felt top and it has a few holes along the spind of the saddle pad to allow for airflow. It's GREAT for my back and its thick and dense enough for the horses comfort too BUT the surcingle rings leave horrible bruises the first few rides when I haven't ridden in it for a while. I use to do all my training in it as I also use to do roman riding so I didn't have to switch out tack. The western pad was also stiff enough that I could flip up a corner and use it as a side saddle. ;o)

I'm sure there are better options out there. I'm interested in the best friend comfort pad but it looks tooo soft with noo grip in the seat.. I'm also looking into the thinline one. I'd love the baretek concept but it looks limiting. The El companero has a good concept but its sooo dang ugly!

It cost maybe a total of $20 (not counting the girth, which is a good quality western cinch) and gives a ton of stick-um when I'm riding, sweaty horse or not.

I've had this one on my wishlist for forever, based off positive reviews from this forum. One of these days I'm going to get around to actually buying it... I'd already have it if it were carried by any of the online stores that I regularly buy from.

I highly recommend the Toklat Coolback Toklat - Horse Tack - Saddle Pads - Horse Riding Apparel I honestly think its better than my saddle... Its sooooo comfy and fits everything fat to skinny, plus it doesn't slide a lot. :)
