barrel clothing HELP PLEASE!!!

How do you know if a western hat is for men or women? I'm looking for one that's white or light that will work for barrel racing. My shirt is light pink plaid.

And 2nd question how can you tell if boots are for riding or just the western look.

Would you go with a black and pink theme, or brown and pink? Brown seems better for barrel racing, but opinions wanted.

And what type of belt would look good.

If you go to a tack store or probably RCC (if you have one near you) they could answer the clothing question. As for boots, if you're buying them at a tack store or a western store, the majority of them are for work. If you buy them at a department store, they're just for the look. You can usually tell by just looking at them and feeling them.

What colour is your horse? That would help the black or brown question.

Most hats that are specifically for women are blingy or shaped differently, you can generally tell right away. They can sometimes be "one size" or just small, medium or large whereas mens hats are 71/4 6 5/8 etc..However felt hat wise they could go either way. The number of X's in a felt cowboy hat is how much fur was used to make it, however its only useful in each seperate brand. I.E a 6X Resistol may use more fur than a 20X Rodeo
King. White hats are a pain, if you have anything on your hands it'll mess it up, and you can leave finger prints just by holding them.
Boots wise, you can pretty much tell by looking at them. Durango and Dingo are a less expensive "fashion" type boot generally. Ariat and Justin are pretty safe and affordable with a pretty huge selection.

Atwood Low Crown Palm Leaf Straw Hat

Ladies' Chocolate Burnished with Pink Ranch Hand Nocona Boot

How about those? Boots fore riding? And hat for girls? Good for barrels?

Then i'll just add a bling belt?

Many different horses with different colors, so not really to worried about the horses color.

I would go black and pink, but that's just my personal taste (I hate the colour brown. )

Those boots look fine. Maybe see if that website has a return policy in case they aren't as nice as they look and you would like to send them back.

How about the hat?

Depending on what circuit you'll be running barrels, there's a very good chance that they won't have/enforce a dress code, and you won't need the hat at all. Sanctioned rodeos, of course, are a different story, as are some breed shows. But any ol' hat will really do, though the "fancy" ones certainly seem to be popular nowadays.

Boots for riding will have a considerable heel and won't be too "chunky." Some are even labeled "stirrup-friendly" in the description.

Make sure the hat fits right or it will come off and then you'll be pinged. The boots look fine. I like the Justin brand and the smokey mountains.

Most barrel racers add stampede strings to their hats to hold them on so you don't get DQ'd.

Good advice everyone. Thanks.

I like that hat because it's cheap, hopefully for a women (?), and the color I want... decide brown and pink.,9870.html

The hat gives options of 4 or 4 1/2" ---- whats that for, and what should I go with?

Unless there is another one on the site that would be better?
