Barrel Racing Saddle Pads

I'm not really into all those gimmicky, expensive saddle pads, so does anyone have experiences with either of these types of saddle pads? If it were you, which of these two saddle pads would you buy..

1) Mustang Felt Top PVCWestern Saddle Pad-32" x 32"
black felt top, PVC rubber bottom, oval cut vent holes, and wear leathers. Easy to clean rubber bottom, keeps horse cool, and I've heard stays in place well. $65 ( Mustang Felt Top PVCWestern Saddle Pad - )

2) Showman 32 x 32 Wool Felt Pad with Wear Leathers - BLACK, wool/felt top and bottom $44 ( Green River Tack )

Showman is a good brand if your not willing to pay up the boot for saddle pads! I personally like the showman pads. I haven't used this specific one but a one like it and was really nice! Not sure about the other one you have. Hope you like whichever you pick!

I just want to point out that when it comes to tack, I'd rather have a high quality pad that will better suit my horse's needs than just any cheap pad that will work. As far as quality goes when it comes to a nice saddle pad, you get what you pay for.. Just because some pads are expensive doesn't mean they're a gimmick. Companies like Classic Equine, Impact Gel, Best Ever Pads, Professional's Choice, and others..are expensive for a reason, they are better pads, period. I personally use Classic Equine ESP pads. I want to try an Impact Gel or Classic Equine BioFit pad on one of my mares..Moral of story: Expect to get what you pay for. There may be a few nice cheap pads out there, but I'd rather save a little more money for a pad that will be better for my horse. Better that than vet and chiro bills..

I'm not saying all expensive saddle pads are gimmicks, but there are a lot out there. You are right though about quality tack I totally agree. I did my research on these pads so they may be some of the "few nice, cheap ones" I personally don't think they are that cheap though, I could easily get a fun bright colored crappy pad for 15 bucks. The 1st pad listed is on sale it is usually around 75-80 bucks. Also, Fallon Taylor uses the first pad on all of her horses and she rodeos multiple times a week so if it messed up the horses back she wouldn't be using it. I think I just figured out my answer in this post..I'm going to buy the first pad! Thanks for both of your posts.

I can't for the life of me figure out why the felt would be on the top instead of next to the horse. My preference is for wool, a natural fiber that wicks moisture away from the hot sweaty back. Rubber, neoprene, gel, is very hot.

Well the PVC rubber and vent holes supposedly keep the horse cool, but I don't have any experience with them to know if that is true or not. Is this wool pad something like you're suggesting? Ranch Tough Contoured Pad
