Barrel Saddles

I've been looking into saddles recently (more like always) and I've noticed that most of the barrel racing saddles I see are light oil.

Is there any particular reason for that or is it just a current fad?

Probably just a fad. Mine is dark oil, more a long the lines of a chocolate colour.

Good to hear. I definitely prefer the dark oil look.

Maybe I'll check out ebay for some older models.

I've actually noticed more medium oil barrel saddles than anything.

mine is a light color. i got it at a saddle exchange. but it was a NBHA barrel saddle that someone won - looked like it had never been used before we bought it.

Just a trend, light oil barrel saddles often match the 'blingy' breastplates and bridles that are out and about aswell :). However, some people ask me for dark oil barrel saddles, and I've even made them in dark brown

I love the dark oil too and was able to find one after I had to sell another barrel saddle that didn't fit. This picture was when it first arrived middle of May so the roughout is still super light, but it has finally started to darken some and taken on my leg. I also had to work on turning the fenders which worked out as well. I LOOOOVE the dark oil though. Light oil is a trend. I think in the 90's, dark oil was much more popular.
