Bell Boots?

My friend rides her pony with bell boots. He doesn't really need them, she just uses them as a safety thing to make sure that he doesn't pull off his shoes when she rides him. Should I get my horse a pair of bell boots as a safety thing or would it be a waste of money?

I keep bell boots on my horse because she scratches herself behind the hoof. However when I left them during a lesson with the jumping instructor, she was not very happy about it: she said they may influence the horse's gait (not sure it's true or not). I'm not sure how much it helps with the shoes though. I do remember similar post here and people stated it does help, but I have no experience.

I like them, especially when I'm jumping. Both my riding and competition horses have bell boots on 24/7 because I hate bugging my farrier because he's a busy man. And a horse is bound to overreach and clip a shoe off at one point in their life.

It depends on the horse. Bell boots are great to use on horses that tend to over-reach (hit their front hooves with their back hooves), horses in training doing movements that increase the chance of a back hoof catching the front, and horses that have front shoes (and over-reach). Bell boots should always be used with a built-up heel shoe.
If your horse has regular shoes and doesn't over-reach, I wouldn't bother with them.

I keep them on my horse in the feild because of how my farrier shoes my horse, and she tracks up a lot when it's muddy or snowy. But I take them off when I ride, she might clip her shoe, but it's very rare.
