He will ride with his mouth wide open and his tongue hanging out...? and he's really head flingy. He also gets really choppy but I don't have an english saddle that's wide enough for him (the girls that come out do have one). I used my western work saddle on him the other day and I think it may have been too narrow. He is built like a draft, even though he's only about 14.2 and a half, he's HUGE in the barrel....
That would be from the twisted snaffle. Try taking that bit and putting it in the crook of your elbow - you'll see why he doesn't like it.

As far as for the saddle, get someone that can fit saddles to tell you if your saddle fits. If you are at all unsure if the saddle is fitting well - then don't ride him in it! You are just creating more and more problems by riding the horse in ill fitting tack.

I have a different western saddle that does fit him, that was my favorite work saddle that I put on him. I think that is why he rode choppy but as far as the bit go's, he was head flingy w/ little to no contact so I can't decide. Vet coming on Friday for float. I'm picking up a new bit today, do you think the french link over the myler?

Ok. Rode in my old western saddle. No choppy ride this time. My favorite work saddle is to narrow. :( Went by the tack shop, somebody had the nerve to buy my Bates saddle. I've been looking at it all summer! Anyway, got the french link and he was much better. I still think his teeth are an issue but WAY better ride.
