Blanket problems

I have been having problems with blanket straps on my mare. No matter how tight I adjust the belly straps she manages to get her back leg through one of them. Thankfully she doesn't freak out, and the blankets that I have it tends to just slide back or break the strap, but I know it can be really dangerous. I think part of it is that because she is so little (63" blankets and she isn't very wide), the blankets hang further past her body than they would on stockier built horses, so the belly straps as a result hang lower. The other problem is that the straps just don't adjust short enough. I know the obvious solution would be just to not blanket her, and if I can't get this fixed I won't blanket her next winter but at this point she has no winter coat and its pretty cold out. Has anybody else had this problem and how have you fixed it?

I was going to sugges that you move the D rings that the straps are attached to but it's one of those jobs that turn into a big job if the blanket doesn't fit under the sewing machine.

Maybe take it to a local tailor if you have one?
