Shopping for blankets is like a a guy looking for makeup...theres so manyyyyy! I have Docs sizes and all but I don't know what to get? I live in GA and the winters can get pretty cold. He is a pasture horse and I will not clip him. Any recomendations? Im clueles
In winter I put three rugs on. A light summer rug on the bottom, a slightly heavier canvas rug in the middle and heavier quilted, waterproof rug on top. This seems to keep her nice and toasty without her being too hot.
Try and find rugs that arent too heavy though. Once you get 3 rugs happening it has the potential to get quite heavy. I use the classic cool coat combo for summer rugs and wetherbeata landa rugs as the quilted kind. They arent too heavy at all.
If you arent sure on what you should get, most staff at horse places should be able to help you out with exactly what would be good for you :)
If you're not clipping her then she should be able to keep warm herself. Especially if you stable her. But you might want to get a rain sheet for turnout to keep her nice and dry.
