Bleaching Halters

Hello.
My aunt gave me one of her old halter bridles that was blue she dyed brown. I was wondering if anyone has bleached their halters before? What did you use? It's double layered and it has brass buckles. I was hoping just to stick it in a bucket of bleach then to dye it with just your basic stuff at the store. What do you guys think???

Any tips would be helpful.
Thanks.

Wouldn't it be easier to buy a new halter? :p

But if you were to do the bucket thing, do like 5 parts water, 1 part bleach.
