Bona Allen

I just purchased a Bona Allen saddle on Ebay. Can anybody give me an idea of the age of this thing? Also, I paid $265.00. Did I pay the right price?
The following is the description of ebay:

, Serial # 5-512A, Old Antique Vintage Bona Allen Saddle Basket Weave Heavy 15 Inch This is an old marked Bona Allen Saddle. It is basket weave pattern on the leather even behind the cantle and under the skirt on the rigging. The leather is strong and in good condition. There is a mar on the seat. The saddle has silver star conchoes. The horn and cantle are tight. This saddle has been in the barn. The seat is 15 inches, the skirt is 26 inches and the gullet is 6 inches. The fender needs a bit of re-stitching. The stirrups have turners on them. Please look the pictures over carefully as this saddle is sold as is.

Thanks

I think you got a very nice saddle for the price. I would get pad for the seat, that will keep it from any further damage in that area & make you more comfortable & protect it from the elements.

I think you will be please to know you got a good buy on a very good saddle. We're not seeing them built this well any more. Two guesses say it's heavy. Don't worry about the small missing patches in the fleece as it's job is to prevent the pad from scooting out. The conchos on your saddle would be difficult to replace. I have an old set plus new ones and there is no comparison. Your saddle was built when people invested in quality. If you haven't ridden in it, you might prefer the hard seat. I know I do, finding it more comfortable.
