Brand new Billy Cook Saddles

My mom and I just bought 2 new Billy Cook barrel saddles.

They look great, the leather is nice. I made sure they are from Sulfer, Oklahoma.

I'm wondering if I need to oil them? They have this, I don't know how to explain it, rough feel to the skirt..the tenders are rough out, but the tooling looks almost "dull and unfinished"

They are both light oil in color, the other Billy Cook I have is a medium oil, I don't know if that matters, but the leather is smoother and shinier. Of course its 10 years old too. Lol.

And it should be fenders, not tenders. LoL. DYAC.

Do not Oil the Roughtout, but you can oil the underside of the fenders and Jockies if they are Roughout

For light oil leather be sure to use a Non-Darkening Oil Neatsfoot or similar treatment.

If the leather is already soft and supple, then just a good coat of Aussie Leather Conditioner works great for protecting the Leather.
