Bridle Halter combo?

Has anyone used these? Is there a down side to these? They look pretty nice online I just have never seen anyone use one.

I use them for trail riding. They are nice if you need to stop and take a break, you can put your horse on a line and just attatch a leadrope to the halter hook. Or if you are going to be stopped for a while, you can drop the bit and let your horse graze. My last horse wouldnt drink with a bit in so it was kinda necessary for trail riding!

Green Broke
I had an arabian when I was about 10 who was previously abused around his ears, so we rigged up a bit so that we could just attach the bit right to his halter. I wasnt, nor am I tall now, so it worked out this way so I could get him ready myself. It was pretty handy to have(even though it wasnt part of a bridle) cause it was easy to teach other horses to accept the bit and to have it in their mouth for a while without worrying about wrecking it.

I've got a green nylon one to match my green cordura saddle.

I love it. My first horse had issues with catching that were never really resolved. He'd be a gem at home, but if he ever got loose in a more stressful, non-home environment,(thank God that only happened once, and it was an enclosed area) catching involved a lengthy process. So, switching halters for bridles and vice-versa was a tricky and risky process. It was a lot less stressful to just trailer him to the trailhead in the halter part, and slip the bit in without taking all the headgear off and risking a loose horse.

I haven't found a downside to them - I've found mine incredibly handy. I want to buy another eggbutt with a copper mouth and set it up permanently for Scout, rather than constantly swapping bits around.

Yearling
It's all I use on my two guys. I absolutely love them. Not to mention that when I leave out, I can just detach the bit and load and haul them with that halter on instead of putting their regular halters on. I got a couple of leather ones from Chick's Saddlery online for pretty cheap...I think $39.00. But, I ordered a heavier one from Smith Amish Made Tack for Rookie because he's ridden so much more. The hardware on the cheaper one only looks like brass, but Rookie's started rusting with so much use. The one from the Amish has the heavy duty rust resistant hardware.
