Bridle Name Plates

I was looking through Dover's new catalog today, and noticed that they sell bridle name plates. I've seen these brass name plates on halters and saddles, but never on a bridle. Where would you attach these on a bridle?

Just curious. :)

i've always seen them attached at the crown. the metal will bend along with the curve of the leather so it sits nicely on the horse.

that being said - i don't have any on my bridles because someone george morris (i'm 99% sure it was him) said once about them being gaudy and distracting. hahaha - i tend to agree.

Well, I would think it would be a little tacky if it was just blinging out of control on the cheek piece or something similar, but I can see how having the name plate on the crown of a bridle would be beneficial in a bigger barn where there are bridles everywhere. It's for identification and if its on the crown, you wouldn't really be able to see it very well while it's on the horse...

If they are placed on the cheek piece, most people place them so that the extra leather that you put in the keeper covers it so that it doesn't look distracting.

for the life of me i can't seem to google find an image for a horse wearing a bridle with a name plate on the crown. if the horse is braided and showing you can see the plate for sure. i've seen them at shows and while i do think it looks nice, when the sun hits them you can be nicely blinded by the "flash". lol.

of course - having your name/your horses name on your tack at a larger boarding facility makes tons of sense. in that case - what would you put on the name plate? the horse's name and your name? your name only? what?

I think it's up to you what you put. For my saddle and bridle, I put my name, and my name only. Besides, if I use that tack on a different horse, or sell my horse, etc. it just makes sense to have my name on it, not the horse's. But I had a halter with my horse's name on the name plate. That made more sense to me, because that was the only horse I used that halter on, and it just made it more fun. So I think it's whatever works for you.

yeah i have custom halters with name plates for my horses (their registered name, barn name and "love by" with my name) and i have a saddle plate for my saddle with just my name on it but i've never had a bridle plate. probably doesn't help seeing as i'm a bit of a tack hoarder and would end up with a bazillion bridles with name plates. hahaha ;)

Generally the plate goes on the crown piece, kind of by your horse's ear. I've never seen it done but I suppose you could put it on the cheekpiece, if it was narrow enough (it might be too wide).

Yes, it was George Morris who hate nameplates. He is ultra conservative but his argument is that the focus and attention should be placed on the horse. Any type of bling is just a distraction from what should be the center of attention.

I guess I see his point. I wouldn't want to take away from my horse's glory  But I still think I'll keep using them... at least for now.
