I had a question on here a couple weeks ago about having trouble finding a saddle to fit my horse. It's like a great fitting saddle does not exist. Every saddle I try is too wide and doesn't clear the withers good. I even ordered a semi-QH bars 6 1/4" gullet width saddle with still no luck of a good fit. The folks on this forum recommended a built up saddle pad. So I bought a Diamond Wool Built-up cut back saddle pad. The difference it's makes is surprising! It makes a bigger difference than any of the saddles I tried. It actually gets some clearance under the gullet over the withers. But here is my question, since the pad is built up in the front it fits like a more narrow saddle, but in the back it would be the same. Almost seems like it might add more pressure at the back since it's padded up thick in the front. Could this cause problems to the spine? I don't want to be worrying too much, or seem unsatisfied. I just want to be sure this isn't going to be a problem. I only weigh like 160 anyway so it's not like saddle fit is extremely critical. I just want to be sure I am not going to cause any problems or serious discomfort. Any info on the technical side of how a built up pad works would be appreciated. Thanks!
