Cavesson won't fit in the keepers!

I got my bridle back in March, I think.....and yes, I know it's el cheapo ($30) but it works for us. Except for the fact that I've never been able to put the cavesson in the keepers! When I buckle the noseband, I can buckle it, but the end won't go in the kepers there. I've tried oiling it a ton, cleaning it, working it in, and the end won't go more than halfway in. What do I do? The end of the strip of leather is wider than the middle of it, if that makes any sense. Here's some pics. Any and all advice appreciated! I'm going to be showing in it in a few weeks and I need to be able to put the end of the noseband in the keepers so it doesn't continue to fly loose....

This is just a guess, lol, and there will be probably better ideas... but you could just take a knife or sissors(whichever works) and just cot a little bit of leather off the end of the strap, so it fits. If you didnt want to do that, you could also just put a black or brown small elastic on beside the keeper, and just put the strap in there so it is tucked into something :)

I was just get some rubber bands that match your bridle and use them as a makeshift keeper. It wouldn't be noticeable unless you had your face all in it.

Two things you can do.

1. Trim the end of the strap. It looks like it bulges out at the end. Use some SHARP kitchen shears or pruning shears and shave off a little from both sides and along the point.

2. Get the keepers only very, very wet. Stick something in the keepers to stretch them out. Like a marker, thick pen, etc. Leave it in there until they dry completely, 24 hours at least. Try to put the caveson strap in after they dry. If it's still too snug, get the keepers wet and add oil. Use a q-tip to get oil inside the keepers. Use your "thing" again to stretch them out, or something even thicker/bigger. Wait 24-36 hours this time (oil takes a bit longer to dry), then try again.
